According to the stats and the hype given in the media and in the blogsphere this seems to be the next big wave in the outsourcing industry.
But let me do a simple maths to prove this industry is worth billions of dollars. Every year there are 3 million applications for patents in the US alone. To file for patent rights in USA it would cost 14,000 Dollars and if it is outsourced to India it would cost around 6,000 Dollars so they save around 8,000 dollars on each patent that would be filed.
So Multiply 30,00,000*6000=18000000000 US Dollars It can simply be stated as
18 Billion Dollars (No, I dont want to convert that into Indian Currency) This is only for a part of the industry I havent calculated many other streams in Legal services such as:
Litigation support
Discovery analysis
Discovery management,
presentation & access
Document abstraction,
indexing & collation
Exhibit preparation
Transaction support
Customized draft transactional documents

So, in future I wont be suprised if the US government outsources it's Federal Courts to India and uses Indian judicial system and its Judges for cost cutting reasons(Pun Intended).
I myself being a Law Graduate would like to see this industry prosper so that in future more students (the ones with real talent who prefer being a doctor or an engineer rather than being a Lawyer) would be willing to take this noble profession.
